Hello Poetry Lovers
Today I’m featuring two poems from the versatile poet Liz Cowley. I love this poet, both poignant and funny. Really worth a read.
We can identify with both pieces – one from a teenage girl upstairs, and the other from the mother downstairs. They both strike a chord…
Bathroom Mirror
‘Bathroom mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of us all?’

‘You – I tell you every day.
What else am I supposed to say?

You gaze at me the whole damned time.
And please may I complete my rhyme?

You’ve been in here at least half an hour.
Your parents might just like a shower.

Could I perhaps suggest to you
My fellow mirror in the loo?’

Waiting

I am waiting for someone else to cook dinner.

I am waiting for someone else to lay the table.

I am waiting for someone else to wash up.

The problem is, I’m still waiting.

Liz Cowley
Marvellous aren’t they, and great sketching potential. Do look into her work.
Thanks for tuning in, PL’s. We’ll be back with more poetry action real soon….

Great poems and drawings 💖💖

Hi Heather, I’m glad you have discovered Liz Cowley. She and her
husband live about 200 yards from me, in Charlwood Road. She has
presented her selections of her poetry to two meetings of Putney Verse
Workshop; she’s been helpful in giving advice on getting ones stuff
published. They spend quite a lot of their time in a house they have in
France. I think I have copies of all her poetical works, as well as
several books of fiction and non-fiction they’ve produced. Connaire
